University of Michigan Credit Union Pierpont Commons Branch
To update their branches with the latest technology and provide open, inviting environments, the University of Michigan Credit Union contracted Daniels and Zermack Architects to reimagine the Pierpont Commons Branch located within the University of Michigan’s North Campus Student Center. The new branch features large, glazed openings with “virtual branch kiosks” at which members can quickly take care of many financial needs. The kiosks feature a tablet and webcam, allowing members to virtually chat with member representatives at a separate location for quick access to their account needs.
Floating acoustic ceiling clouds inside the branch create an intimate atmosphere for member representatives to sit with members for transactions that are more involved than traditional over-the-counter transactions, and a glass enclosed office provides space for transactions that require slightly more privacy. The ample lighting helps draw walkers-by into the branch and lets both members and employees enjoy the space even more. Additionally, a large mural wall highlights the Credit Union’s involvement with the surrounding community and close ties to the University. During project development and planning, Daniels and Zermack worked with the University of Michigan administration and facilities staff to coordinate construction efforts according to University standards to ensure safety and efficiency for students and contractors.
